Acquarotta to theWest, about 2 km long, and Schiapparo
to the East, about 1 km long. The two channels are protected on the
seaward side by gabions, and their beds are lined with concrete, as
are the banks at the seaward end. There are sluices and 10 mm
grilles at the lagoon end, use of which has been inconsistent over
the years. At the seaward end of the Acquarotta channel there has
been an illegal landing stage for fishing boats for about a decade.
Over the last ten years, rainfall (400–700 mm a year) has tended to
be concentrated in autumn–winter
