Mining
Laos is one of the most resource-rich countries in Asia, particularly in copper, gold, lead and zinc. In just one decade, the value of the industry increased from virtually nothing to around AUD$1 billion. In 2013, mining was Lao‘s main export category accounting for 47% of total exports. The Lao Government has imposed a moratorium on the issue of mineral exploration licences, which currently impedes new foreign investment in extractive industries in Laos.
