Thrust journal: Installed on both side of the bull gear. Its redial portion is white-metal casted for journal bearing and its axial face is equipped with same metal for thrust bearing.
------
Thrust bearing consists of a group of table landed metal pads casted on the axial face of the metal body. Thrust metal pads have tapered portion to introduce lubricating oil to thrust bearing face. Because of the direction of the taper, the position of thrust bearing in the gear box are definitely determined to match their oil flow direction to the rotating direction. The position of the thrust bearings are not interchangeable Arrow mark is inscribed on the flanged side face of the bearing case to show the oil flow direction, this is, the rotating direction of the bull gear.
