We journey toward wholeness by growing in maturity. Maturity, in general, is the state or quality of being fully grown or developed. Human maturity is more than just being physically grown-up. Human beings have many dimensions to their life such as physical (e.g. body), psychological (e.g. emotions), social (e.g. relationship with others), intellectual (e.g. understanding), moral (e.g. value or virtue-based behaviour) and spiritual (e.g. relationship to a higher being). Human beings can be said to be mature when they are able to feel, think and behave consistently in the pursuit of valued outcomes in a way that allows optimal functioning in the various dimensions of their personhood (see also D'Sa & Pereira, Ch. 2, this volume).
