Seeds were manually separated from 100
berries and homogenized in a high-speed homogenizer (Ultraturrax
T25, Janke & Kunkel GmbH & Co.) with 20 mL of 70%
(v/v) aqueous ethanol and extracted with occasional manual
shaking at room temperature for 1 h. The slurry was centrifuged
(12000g, 5 °C, 40 min), and the precipitate was reextracted
twice with the same solvent for 30 min (2 20 mL).
Supernatants were pooled, and the volume was adjusted such
that 100 mL corresponded to the extract from 6 g of seeds.
