Heavy rains in the southern Mexican state of Quintana Roo have caused flooding and prompted the governor to request the declaration of a disaster.
After two days of heavy rains, authorities in the state capital, Chetumal, estimate 60 (m) million pesos (3.6 (m) million US dollars) would be needed to repair streets.
A statement released late Monday said Gov. Roberto Borge Angulo had declared an emergency in seven municipalities.
Three shelters were opened in the state, located in the Yucatan Peninsula, for families displaced by floodwaters.
The rain is forecast to continue throughout Tuesday.
