3.2.2. Effect of the carbonization time
The carbonization time has a significant effect on the porous network
development in the activated carbon. Therefore, in order to obtain
activated carbon having desired properties, precursor must be treated
suitable carbonization time and temperature. The effect of carbonization
time on the yield and BET surface area of the activated carbon
was studied in the range of 30–150 min at a carbonization temperature
of 700 °C. The results are given in Table 2. As the carbonization time increased
from 30 to 150 min, the yield of activated carbon production
continuously decrease from 40.81 to 31.03%. However, the BET surface
area abruptly increased with the increasing carbonization time up to
120 min, and thereafter it did not change much. Therefore, it can be stated
that the carbonization time of 120 min is more appropriate to obtain
activated carbon from the grape stalk activated by ZnCl2
