To get a better picture of the technological level in the Italian
galvanic industry, we undertook an in-field survey. Thirtyfive
companies took part in the survey, giving a total of 266
declared galvanic processes and 186 completed process forms.
The companies are mainly in Northern Italy and are a rather
good representation of the sector. They are of small to medium
size, with the majority numbering less than 15 employees generating
an annual turnover below V 2.5 million. Eight of the
companies account for 80% of the total turnover, while 14
companies make up 80% of the total workforce.
The indicator used for the specific assessment has been
called the Level of Coverage, GP, and is defined as the ratio
between the cases in which a given BAT is used and the cases
in which it could have been used, expressed as a percentage.
The true technological gap is in fact the complement of the indicator
GP, while this latter expresses the level of coverage of
the individual technique.
