Community
Service
Learning
Community service learning is now
becoming an integral part of most
high school programs. Many schools
are requiring students to compile a
certain number of hours of
community service for graduation.
But like all good ideas, this one is
also only as good as its
implementation. Community service
programs work best when students
are matched up by the school and
community organizations in
accordance with their unique
strengths and interests. In this
scenario, community service also
becomes a vehicle to deliver quality
programs to the recipient
communities. As for the students,
they gain an important lesson in
giving, are better prepared for the
challenges of college, and sharpen
and strengthen the social and
technical skills they will utilize in the
real world after college.
