In addition, hypofibrinogenemia and increased levels of FDP result in secondary uterine atony [5] that can hinder effective labor, increase hemorrhaging from the abruption surface or wound, and aggravate DIC. Anti-DIC therapy requires elimination of the causative disease and coagulation factor supplementation, and a delay in therapy contributes to maternal death (Figure 1).
