Silver–zinc crystals inhibited the growth of various microbial
strains, being the S. typhimurium ATCC 14028 which presented
greater resistance, demonstrating the potential antimicrobial
activity of silver. It was obtained PA-6/silver–zinc crystals
films with potential application in food preservation and
safety, specifically, sausages. Silver–zinc crystals were successfully
impregnated in PA-6 films and this impregnation of
silver–zinc crystals in the films did not change, in general way,
their mechanical and thermal properties and decreased the
oxygen and water vapor permeability, but it is necessary the
optimization of the microcomposite films manufacturing, in
which multiple variables and parameters are involved, all of
which must be considered to produce the most adequate film
for the objectives proposed.
