The cigarette-smoke experiment is carried out using a smoke machine that allows
cigarettes to be burned at different rates. The machine consists of a mounting plate,
which can take up to ten cigarettes. The number of cigarettes is chosen to reach a smoke density in the fire chamber that is comparable to the smoke density of the test
fire TF2. After ignition, a cap is set over the cigarette ends. The resulting smoke is
withdrawn through the mounting plate by using a force pump. The rate of burning is
regulated with the force pump [5].
