A student lets you know that a classmate sent him a threatening e-mail using a school e-mail account. Your school policy states that a teacher must act immediately when any type of bullying occurs, even through e-mail communication. What should you do?
Select your answer, then click Submit.
Go straight to the offending pupil and inform him that this kind of bullying behaviour violates school policy so that the incident can be dealt with immediately. Praise the student who reported the incident for prompt action.
Thank the student for informing you of the e-mail, ask him to forward you a copy and follow up with the situation when you can.
Explain to the pupil that telling you immediately was appropriate. Ask to see the e-mail and, if the message violates school policy, let the offending student know you will have to report the incident. Then report the incident according to school policy at the next available opportunity.
Report the incident to the students' personal tutor so she can deal with the situation more thoroughly and then let the head of IT know that the students' need reminding about the acceptable use policy.
