The present paper describes the development of a new
analytical method for the determination of nitrogen dioxide
in ambient air samples. The corresponding concentration of
nitrogen dioxide in ambient air samples is calculated by
measuring the absorbance, at 1380 cm−1
. NaOH–sodium
arsenite solution is used as an absorbing reagent. The
absorbed nitrogen dioxide in the NaOH–sodium arsenite
solution in the form of nitrite were analyzed using diffuse
reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DRSFTIR)
technique with KBr-matrix. This is a very rapid and
precise method for the determination of nitrite.
