In giftshops all over the world you can see Winnie-the-Pooh. He is in Disney cartoons and is very famous. And now he is the centre of a disagreement between the UK and the US.
At first he was an ordinary soft toy bear thet a father bought for a little boy, called Christopher. The English writer A.A. Milne told his son stories about Winnie-the-Pooh and the other toys that Christopher had. Then he wrote the stories in books that were very popular. Christopher had problems at school sometimes. The other boys laughed at him because he and his toys were in his father’s books. In 1947, the toys were sent on a tour of America to promote the books. Now they are on show in a library in Now York. Engilsh people want the library to send the famous toys back to English, but the Americans will not return them. Nobody has asked Winnie what he thinks.
