farming has always been part of the fundamental base originally designed by Van der Tuin
and Van En (Henderson, 2007). Within this concept we can see a group of individuals that mutually
decide to join forces and resources in order to obtain a piece of land that is suitable for a shareholder
farm. Usually a farmer is hired and paid by the pool of financial resources that is collected through the
sales of ‘shares’. These so called shares are designed in such a way that they give the buyer of these
shares a sense of ownership. This can enhance the motivation level and stimulate active membership
among the core group (Adam, 2006). When members feel they have an intense connection with the
cooperation, and mutual respect is present, active membership is more likely to occur.
