Giant kings on the move
This giant statue of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great is being taken from a foundry in Nakhon Pathom to Hua Hin, where new army-built Ratchaphakdi Park will honour seven of the great Thai kings. Giant Thai kings are moving to Hua Hin this week and motorists are being advised to stay out of the way. The kings are actually statues of famous Thai kings, seven of them, and they are very big. They are each 13.9 metres tall and six metres wide. The statues were made in several different provinces and one statue is being moved each day. The first to begin the journey to Hua Hin is a statue of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great which set off from Nakorn Pathom yesterday. It is being accompanied by an army convoy Today's statue convoy starts from Lop Buri. Tomorrow one leaves from Ayutthaya, followed by Pathum Thani on Sunday and Monday, from Bangkok on Tuesday. The army is building a large park named Ratchapakdi in Hua Hin to honour past Thai kings.
