The unique characteristics of flies are; stylate antennae with 3 joints. Two first joints are small. The third joint is bigger and can be more segmented that makes flies look like they have more than 3 joints in antennae. Some species in this suborder may have aristate antennae. There are 3 R lines on their wings. R2+3 lines usually merge to be 1 line. R4+5 line usually have rupture. Distal cells are closed cells with 3-5 posterior cells.
