Moving away from the traditional relational data model is sometimes referred to as a
revolutionary approach to integrating object-oriented concepts with database systems. In
contrast, in Chapter 28 we examine a more evolutionary approach to integrating objectoriented
concepts with database systems that extends the relational model. These evolutionary
systems are referred to now as Object-Relational DBMSs (ORDBMSs), although
an earlier term used was Extended-Relational DBMSs
