Family Relationships
Before, I used to get everything I wanted and I always got my own way. Then my family decided to take part in a TV show that shows the differences between generations. We had to spend two weeks as my dad did in the 1970s.
The men, who came to our house on the first day. Were from the TV production team. They closed parts of our house so it seemed smaller. The following day, another team replaced our furniture with awful 70s stuff. They also confiscated our plasma TV and gave us an old radio. I hated the van which they gave us instead of our fantastic car. They even took away most of my clothes, CDs and gadgets.
One weekend, my dad drove me to the house where he used to live in Manchester. I asked him, ‘How did you use to live here? It’s really small and there were six people in your family!’ He said, ‘We all used to help in the house. I used to wash and iron my clothes.’ His dad didn’t use to give him any money, but they respected each other very much.
I suddenly realized how selfish and stubborn I was and that I don’t need most of the things I have. I was shocked at the way I used to speak to my parents. I can definitely say I’m the person whose life changed the most after the show. I’m more considerate now and I’ve got more respect!
