This paper presents an overview of Thailand's urban development characteristics and poliicies during the past 3 decades. It discusses the urban land-use development in Bangkok Metropolitan Area, BMA, and the related problems : transportation and environments. These problems are presented through discussions of the National Plans. Measures proposed to National Economic and Social Development Board, NESDB, soon to be implemented are also presented. The paper further explains the failure to implement the concept of land-use related transport planning aspects for the creation of urban area with suitable environment.
