XRD results of samples containing FeTiO3 and C which have been
synthesized for 5, 10, 15 and 20 min in microwave furnace can be seen
in Fig. 2. Regarding these results, ilmenite is the only phase which can
be detected in the raw materials. After 5 min of heating, the iron oxide
and titanium oxide phases have been formed. These two phases due to
their high thermodynamical stability will exist in any case inside the
structure. However, by increasing the heating time to 10 min, some
weak TiC peaks can be detected which by increasing the heating time
strengthened the increases too. After the heating time of 20 min, TiC,
iron oxide and titanium oxides can be clearly recognized. Using the
Williamson–Hall method the TiC crystals size has been investigated.
These sizes for 15 and 20 min of heating time were 18 and 21 nm
respectively.
