Characterization is the technique a writer uses to help you become acquainted with the characters in the story. The author uses methods which are similar to those you use in real life: physical appearance, speech and actions, the attitudes and reactions of the other characters to the one being revealed. An author can also tell you about a character through its inner thoughts and feelings. If an author has made believable characters, then they can help us to understand something about real people, including ourselves.
