Age, as expected, is a significant predictor of worse 30-DM. This finding differs from the results of the ACOSOG Z0030 study, which demonstrated no increased risk of 30-DM by age.6 The lack of significance in that study may have been due to patient selection. Patients on clinical trials tend to be healthier and more fit than those who are not, and the results may thus not be reflective of what is seen in a general populationebased data set. Most importantly, our results highlight the fact that patient selection is key, and surgery can be undertaken in elderly patients without an increased risk of 30-DM provided they are appropriately selected
