A sample of lots was tested using both the customer’s procedure and Carstab’s proposed procedure, and 55% of the lots passed Carstab’s test while 50% of the lots passed both tests. Probability analysis of these results indicated that if a lot passed Carstab’s new test, there was a .909 probability of it passing the customer’s test. This was good supporting evidence for the use of Carstab’s new test, and the new test procedure was implemented by Carstab. Results showed an immediate improvement in customer service and a reduction in shipping costs for returned lots.
