Resources needed to maintain continuous microalgae cultivation have been investigated (Acien et al., 2012). These data are further converted to produce 1 kg dry microalgae powder by mass balance: 0.334 kg nitrate (NO3 - ), 0.033 kg phosphorus (P) and 0.012 kg potassium (K). Water consumption, which can be estimated using biomass productivity data, is 770, 260 and 190 L for the flat plate, tubular, and raceway reactors per production of 1 kg dry microalgae powder, respectively.
