Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM) and U.S. Veteran Hiring Preference
In accordance with State Department policy, Appointment Eligible Family Members (AEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference in the selection process. If these individuals meet all the essential criteria as outlined on the job advertisement, they will be the only candidates selected for assessment. If the AEFM or U.S. Veteran demonstrates that they meet the essential requirements for the position during the assessment, they will be selected for that position. However, a U.S. Veteran AEFM receives preference in hiring before all other candidates.
Non-hiring preference candidates will ONLY be considered if hiring preference candidates do not demonstrate that they meet the essential criteria on paper or at assessment. The essential selection criteria of a vacancy is specified in the job announcement/advertisement of the position.
If you are entitled for AEFM or U.S. Veteran hiring preference, it is YOUR responsibility to demonstrate this preference at the time of application submission. If you fail to provide the information detailed hereunder, preference will NOT be given.
If you are an AEFM identify yourself as such on your application and please provide a copy of your sponsor’s orders. To qualify as an AEFM you must meet ALL of the AEFM criterias. See AEFM definition.
Please note that being a spouse or dependent of an individual U.S. citizen, working and living in the Thailand, does not qualify you as an Appointment Eligible Family Member (AEFM), for the purposes of preference in the Mission hiring process.
If you are claiming U.S. Veteran hiring preference, you MUST, include your DD-214 - Member 4. If a DD-214 - Member 4 is not provided at the time of application, preference will not be given.
