The Computerized Neurocognitive function Test (CNT) was
applied to measure cognitive function of the subjects which consisted
of Continuous Performance Test (CPT), Reaction time,
Omission and Commission errors, Verbal Learning Test (VLT), and
Raven's Progressive Matrices (RPM). The CNT has shown high reliability
and validity for Korean adults (r from 0.543–0.905) (Ha
et al., 2002a; b; Lyoo et al., 2002). Patients were evaluated with the
test every 4 weeks during the study period (weeks 0, 4, 8 and 12),
with a monitor for 1 h with full supervision by researchers. Participants
were provided with full information and practices on the
neurocognitive battery at each site before they started the battery.
CPT was used to assess the attention span of subjects (Buchsbaum
et al., 1988). Reaction time was defined as the amount of time
between the presentation of the stimulus and the subject’s response.
Omission errors indicated the number of times when the
target was presented without a response from the subject. Commission
errors indicated the number of times when the subject
responded without presenting a target. VLT was used to assess
verbal memory abilities (Ha et al., 2002b). It was developed to
operationalize assessment of short term and long term memory
function. Recognition was assessed by subject performance on
target distractor items at 20 min delayed memory. RPM were used
to assess the reasoning ability, which means governing the ability
to switch the behavioral response according to the context of the
situation (Raven, 2000).
