Building up the respect for each other's ideas is absolutely essential for successful dialogic teaching Ask Concentrate on this before you worry about making sure the dialogic bits are right. Politely considerate. challenging inappropriate behaviour/use of language is important for creating the right atmosphere. Ask pupils to apologise and rephrase make their choice of words more appropriate, polite and considerate.

Task L Sequencing
Discuss with a colleague/group the sequence that you could use to introduce dialogic teaching to one of your classes. Consider the current position of the class you have chosen to work with. What is your working well? What are the next steps you need to take? Set yourself challenges which will mark a progress. At each stage take time to reflect on where you and your pupils are at and what might make difference to the quality of pupil thinking. Remember learning for adults is just as messy a process as learning is for children. Enjoy successes and work to overcome difficulties.
