Daily sleep diaries were used in addition to actigraphy to cross-validate subjective and objective data. The variables measured by the subjective daily diaries include sleep-onset latency (SOL), WASO, early morning awakening, total wake time, total sleep time, time in bed, sleep efficiency, number of awakenings, and sleep quality. Sleep quality was assessed with a scale asking patients to rate “How well did you sleep last night?” from 0 (“very poorly”) to 10 (“excellent”). Patients could mark anywhere on the scale between 0 and 10, and responses were scored to the nearest half-integer. Patients completed diary entries that included self-assessment each morning and night.
