Student: Hello, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today.
Professor: Oh, don’t mention it, it’s my office hour. I’m glad you came. What can I help you with?
Student: My mid-term scores are pretty low and I’m not sure if I should continue taking the course.
Professor: I see, how much did you get?
Student: I got 15 percent out of 35%. I think the exam is very difficult for me.
Professor: Well, maybe your background knowledge is not strong, and it’s hard to catch up. And it’s a big class too. It’s hard for me to monitor your progress. Did you do your best in class and in preparing for the exam?
Student: I am not sure, you see. I did many extracurricular activities before mid-term and I didn’t have much time to study for the exam.
Professor: In that case, I think you should find your balance and pay more attention to studying. If you give more time to this class, I think you still have a chance to pass the course.
Student: So, you think I shouldn’t withdraw and keep trying and see how it goes?
Professor: Well, that should be your decision, actually. I can’t make that decision for you. But I suggest you change your priority and hope that you can still make it this semester. But you know best if you can do it or not.
Student: Ok, I understand. Thanks so much for your advice!
Professor: My pleasure. Good luck!
