While I was sketching, I did not have these references first, rather the influence went unnoticed until Demi asked us to present inspiration. I think this step was very important in recognising ways in which I can further my designs to produce no waste. Here are my concepts for the garment:

To prevent wastage, all of my concepts attempt to take geometric, shapes such as triangles and rectangles, and fit those to the body, rather than, for example, cutting a curved armhole when I can make use of a raglan sleeve. I tried to be as detailed as possible, as it is imperative that I work out all the kinks before deciding on which design to take forwards, other wise, I’ll be left with oddly shaped scraps of fabric that are difficult to incorporate.
After having my sketches critiqued, Demi suggested that I stick with the first two designs, as the third I was planning on making out of neoprene in order to create the dramatic, sticking out pockets. I scrapped it in favour of the more forgiving silhouettes of my first two sketches, as the designs require lighter fabric that is easier to work with and manipulate.
Here are some fabrics I was interested in while doing shopping in the Garment District:

The numbered fabrics are for my first design, while the more colourful lawn fabrics are for my saree design.
