Imports of food-grade caffeine decreased in 2008 to 5,538 MT from the high of 7,000 MT in 2007. The chemical is added mainly to cola beverages, energy drinks, drugs and dietary supplements. Therefore, the contribution of imported caffeine to dietary intake is included in the consumption data for those products.
