The story is an excellent study of the use of irony in the portrayal and contrast of Mrs. Mallard, Richards, and Josephine. The final line, "of a joy that kills," is classic in that it maintains the internal "truth" held by the remaining characters and fully reveals all of the ironic statements and situations that have come before it. Hope this helps
