feminist discussion to cast a spotlight on how
the experiences of minority women can be
distinct and different to the experiences of
others in relation to any given issue, this
paper has sought to broaden the applicability
of this term by using it in the context of
disability research.
This research endorsed the belief that
individual experience of disability is not
culture free and in order to effectively work
with parents from different cultures it is
necessary to be more sensitised to their experiences
and to embed this understanding in
practice. Therefore, the study aimed to learn
how disability intersects with culture to form
an experience that is best understood from
the perspective of parents themselves, an
idea that has received little attention in
autism research and is rarely discussed in
relation to the professional practice of
educational psychology.
