Retail banks for qualified financial institutions with much smaller capital
requirement. Retail banks may offer basic financial services to every type of
customers, with the limitation that they may only provide credit, or other similar
transactions, to retail customers and SMEs. They may provide virtually all types of
financial transactions with the same exceptions as commercial banks, and are not
allowed to conduct business related to foreign exchange (unless permitted by the
Minister of Finance), and derivatives products (unless for risk-hedging of own
portfolios). The minimum capital requirement is 250 million baht of tier-1 capital.
