A questionnaire was developed to assess the participants’
perceptions of the causes of motorcycle accidents and their
driving-violation behaviours while operating their motorcycles. The questionnaire consisted of three parts. Part 1
captured the demographic information as well as the respondent’s “active” accident history during the previous
3 years. Active in this context means the motorcyclist was
likely to be at fault for the crash. For example, if a vehicle
hits another on the same carriageway from behind, its
driver will be considered to have been involved in an active
accident, whereas the driver of the vehicle that has been
hit will not be regarded so. The driver involved in an active
accident is usually held to be legally responsible for it.
