The implementation of MSW source-separated collection in the
eight cities mainly focused on public education and separation
facilities, such as containers and vehicles. Overall, source-separated
collection in the eight pilot cities experienced a promising
start, slower progress in the middle and now has halted at the
stage that needs a breakthrough. In recent years, the poor pollution
control measures and obstacles created by the public in choosing
landfill sites trigger many cities to rethink about the necessity of
MSW source separation. Now they are willing to embrace the
new ideas that improve MSWM. Some key findings of the study
and recommendations are outlined below
