Recycled PET cannot generally be used in food products because of the impurities present and the temperature required in the melt process is not high enough to sanitize the product. Many PET products such as films, fibers and resins are often mixed with other polymers or dyes or otherwise contaminated with for eign materials (e.g., audio and video tapes) and as a result cannot be recycled by conventional means and are often landfilled or incinerated.
