In this short paper, we examines the effect of nuclear energy on
CO2 emissions using 12 major nuclear generating countries, after
controlling for income and other relevant factors such as energy
consumption. The primary contribution of the paper is to tackle
the issue with a panel cointegration framework; this approach
could make substantial improvements with statistical power and
sample size but has been largely ignored by the existing literature.
The results show that nuclear energy has a beneficial effect on
reduction in CO2 emissions. It is also found that economic growth
tends to reduce CO2 emissions, while energy consumption has a
detrimental effect on the environmen
