1. The public bus is very crowded, so Pete has to share a seat with a woman whom he doesn't know. She is reading a book. Pete decides to start asking her all about her family. Does she have any children? Does she like pets? What is she reading? The woman starts to sigh and gives very short answers to his questions.
2. Angela is sitting next to a girl about her age in church. The congregation has just sung a song and is sitting down. Angela wants to know who the girl is and where she came from. Maybe she would like to come over to her house after church. The pastor is beginning the sermon. Angela leans over to continue to ask this girl some questions.
3. A boy is sitting outside the principal's office because he got in trouble for using bad language in a classroom. He does not look very happy; in fact, he still looks pretty angry. Tony doesn't know the boy, but he is sorry that he obviously got in trouble, and he wants to tell this poor guy about all the times that HE got in trouble. Maybe the boy would like to hear about all the teachers who gave Tony a hard time too.
4. Donna went to the grocery store to get toothpaste and a bag of potato chips. The cashier seems friendly and rings up the items. There is a long line of people with full shopping carts behind Donna, but she wants the cashier to know how much she likes the brand of potato chips. She also wants to let her know that the brand of toothpaste she bought must be really good because she hasn't had any cavities in a while. Maybe the people behind her too would like to know about her last dental appointment.
