A dual ligand (IDA and BDC) based iron metal organic framework (Fe3NH-MIL-88B) was synthesized and characterized. Interaction of MO with Fe3NH-MIL-88B has distorted the surface morphology, shape, functional group orientation and diffraction patterns of Fe3NH-MIL-88B Fe3NH-MIL-88B can operate efficiently without losing its MO adsorption efficiency in a pH range of 3–10 and in presence of salts (NaCl and NaNO3). The maximum adsorption capacity of Fe3NH-MIL-88B was 280 mg/g and can be reusable even after 6 cycles with > 90% capturing efficiency. The developed Fe3NH-MIL-88B has successfully captured azo dyes from textile industry wastewater samples within 90 min using only 2 mg of MOF. The obtained results are promising in azo dye removal and based on the experiments related to mixture, we believe the Fe3NH-MIL-88B can be extended and explored to remove non-azo dye as well.
