It works by preventing the viral neuraminidase required for infection and viral
reproduction (Yaffe & Aranda, 2011). This inhibition also prevents viral spread to respiratory secretions, thereby reducing respiratory infections (Taketomo, Hodding, & Kraus, 2012). It is eliminated via the kidneys, and dosage adjustment is required for patients with a serum creatinine clearance of 10 to 30 mL/min (Genentech, Inc., 2012).
