In this study, the dried powder was vacuum-packed and the lowest storage temperature used was −20 °C which resulted in the degrada-tion of 25% and 12% of astaxanthin in spray- and freeze-dried powder,respectively, over a 20 week-period. Our results have similarities withthe findings of Miao et al. (2013) and Raposo et al. (2012) who also re-ported low astaxanthin degradation when stored at −18 °C to −21 °C.Unlike Miao et al. (2013) who vacuum-packed the samples, Raposoet al. (2012) flushed the powder in nitrogen gas as a means of removing air.
