The RABIT (Rapid Automated Bacterial Impedance Technique) instruments (Figure 5.5) are licensed by the same patent. However, instead of using water incubators, the RABIT has metal block incubators, each taking up to 32 individual samples. The electrode cells have stainless steel electrodes protruding through the base of their glass tubes. The tubes fit snugly into holes in the blocks. Readings are taken regularly as with the Malthus and processed similarly.
