It is realistic to assume that oral communication will Probably play a larger role in future business communication than it has in the past. However,it is just important to realize that writing will always be with us. Certainly the telephone is personal,immediate,and two-way and it provides an opportunity to discuss questions or interpretations as they arise in many instances, telephoneing is less expensive than writing. On the other hand, a written communication leaves a permanent record to be referred to ; that is why, even when oral methods of communication are used, we so often conclude by saying, "I wish you'd put that in writing"and "I'd like to see it in black and white, A written business communication gives its writer a chance to consider and to organize thought ;it provides the chance to reread and revise and it offers a choice of various forms and styles in which the message can be couched. It is foolish to think, therefore that reports or memos or letters will be replaced as integral parts of the communication process in business, and it is absurd to use the cost of letter , for instance as the sole reason for considering at obsolete.
