There is little scientific or even non-peer reviewed literature available on the determination of factors
that lead to “success” for CSA operations that considers rural enterprise contributions as
environmentally sound, socially just, and economically viable practices. The conscious and deliberate
alignment of economic benefits with social and environmental benefits is an important element of
achieving sustainable development (SEED Insight n.d.) and stands as proper evaluation criteria for
CSA schemes as sustainable elements of the food web. Studies on small farms’ success factors and
characteristics are more abundant.
