Speaking of which, the new NHAS has set
numeric goals for 2020 that address key points on
the continuum of care. As can be seen in Figure 1,
we have a lot of work to do to retain PLWH in
care and get them to an undetectable viral load.
The NHAS does not give a goal for the percentage
of PLWH prescribed antiretroviral therapy, but
given the latest guidelines (Panel on Antiretroviral
Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents, 2015), it is
appropriate to think that the prescription rate goal
should also be 85%. In addition, the NHAS has set
goals to decrease new HIV diagnoses by 25%,
reduce the rate of PLWH who are homeless to less
than 5%, reduce the death rate of PLWH by 33%,
and decrease disparities for specific high-risk groups
by at least 15%.
