(Please remember the phrase “do have significantly better achievement” because we’ll
come back to it later.) So there you have it. The claim is that students do better in classes
with the reformed curricula. That sparked my interest, for now I was going to see some
studies that would support the NCTM proposals.There follow three citations to the literature. Hence by looking up those citations it is
claimed that we will discover some research-based evidence for the effectiveness of these
reform proposals. I want to emphasize that these three papers, which I am about to
comment on in some detail, are being cited as the primary support for the contention that
NCTM-backed curriculum reform proposals have value in enhancing the mathematical
achievement of students.
