The consequences of the serious health and social problems related
to heroin use in the 1980s and 1990 are apparent by the large number
of children born to addicted mothers during the five-year study period,
and the high proportion of subjects who died. 5 of the 150 subjects
studied died (3.3%), four of them died due to complications related to
AIDS and the cause of death in the remaining patient was unknown.
